The price of doing business in rural America declined slightly last month which is good if you’re making a purchase or two on main street but not so great for the economy as a whole. —-

The consumer price index fell 0.1 percent in July as food at the local diner - and the gas to get there - remained relatively flat. The same was true for the index without food and fuel.

The annual inflation rate is 1.9 percent - enough to stay away from the “R” word but not enough for the Feds to raise interest rates.
