Iowa has moved from being a national leader in education to being among the average over the past two decades. In response to this downward trend in Iowa's standing, Governor Terry Branstad called for an education summit to discuss ideas with business and education leaders and teachers on what can be done to make Iowa an educational leader again. On July 25 and 26, in Des Moines, various speakers, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Asia Society Senior Advisor, Vivien Stewart, spoke at the Iowa Education Summit to share their ideas for education reform.
